Damn! If Kurt had heard this version, it might just have kept him alive.
What a find. I'm going to pass the links along to my nephew. He's the one who told me the last words were "a denial, a denial, a denial, etc." rather than "rotting nylons," which is how I interpreted the them. I was only somewhat disappointed to be wrong.

You didn't have any problem with understanding:
"A mulatto; an albino; a mosquito; my libido"?

Actually, I barely understood many of the lyrics. It just happened that when driving with my then-stepson and the song came on the radio that he asked me what I thought the last words were. That's when I came up with "rotting nylons."
But then, I've always enjoyed what comes out with mishearing people. Years ago, a gay friend was commenting on another gay friend's outfit, and to this day I don't know what he actually said, because what I heard was "swishy as a kimono." When I repeated that to him questioningly, he laughed so hard that he forgot what his comment actually was.
The classic line for open interpretation (at least in some minds) is Jimi's "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky/this guy." Depending upon what you wanted to hear, you heard it. And I don't think Jimi ever confirmed what the lyrics actually were.
Even when my brother and his band were doing
Louie, Louie
in the 1960s, the best way to perform it was to mush the lyrics just like the Kingsmen. Then you could perpetuate the "dirty words" idea. But the truth was that they simply couldn't understand them.
I like a little ambiguity in my song lyrics. Though even with the actual lyrics, Kurt keeps
Smells Like Teen Spirit
mighty ambiguous.

I grew up wondering what
donzerly light
meant.
Mash-up of Star Spangled Banner misunderstood lyrics
culled from several sources online:
Jose, can you see,
by the donzerly light?
What soap rowdily we held,
as the twilight's blasphemy.
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
through the perilous fight.
And the red parts we washed,
were so gallantly streaming?
As we nuke the Red Bear,
love bombs bursting in air.
Babe Ruth threw the night,
that our flag was still there.
Jose, does that Star Spanieled Banger yet wave,
Over the lamb of the free and the home of the Braves?
